Run AvailSuite setup and follow the instructions. The first thing the setup program does is to check if .NET Framework 1.1 is installed on the computer. If it is not, it will be installed (if you use the Complete package) or downloaded and then installed (if you use the Smart package). After .NET framework is installed, the system may ask you to restart Windows before continue.
There are two types of setup available: Complete and Custom.
Complete setup should work for anyone who is going to evaluate AvailSuite. If you plan on buying it or using in a multi-user environment, it is recommended to perform Custom setup.
The only thing that may require your attention during Complete setup is an authentication choice screen. You may select the way the setup program connects to the database. The default choice is Windows authentication of the current user. This assumes that the current user has enough privileges to logon to SQL Server. You may change Windows authentication to direct username/password method. Please, note that this authentication will be used only during installation and only if setup program uses existing SQL Server or MSDE instance. Since a new MSDE instance is installed in most cases, this authentication option will be rarely used.
Custom setup gives more control over how the application is going to be installed. More specifically, it is possible to install just AvailSuite database (without the client program) or just AvailSuite client, connecting it to the existing database. This is required for multi-user installation, which we will review next.
